Our Favorite Non-Toxic Mattress Hack (Using Organic Latex Toppers)

Finding a comfortable non-toxic or organic mattress can be surprisingly expensive. Many of the healthier mattress options cost thousands of dollars, and we just weren’t ready to spend that kind of money.

About four years ago we tried something different, and honestly it has been one of our favorite hacks ever.

Instead of buying a whole mattress, we bought two 3-inch organic latex toppers and layered them together.

That’s it.

The result was an incredibly comfortable custom mattress that has held up better than many expensive mattresses we’ve owned.

Why We Tried This Mattress Hack

We originally did this for our RV mattress. RV beds are often uncomfortable and oddly sized, so we needed something flexible and comfortable.

We decided to try layering organic latex toppers, and we were honestly shocked by how comfortable it felt.

After sleeping on it, my husband immediately said it was his favorite mattress he has ever slept on.

He deals with back issues, so support really matters. This setup ended up being both supportive and incredibly comfortable.

The Simple Setup

This mattress hack is extremely simple.

We used:

• two 3-inch organic latex toppers

Layered like this:

1. Mattress base or platform

2. Firm latex topper

3. Soft latex topper

The combination creates a mattress that feels supportive on the bottom and cushioned on top.

It honestly feels like a custom mattress.

Why We Love This Setup

After four years of using this setup, a few things really stand out.

1. Incredible Comfort

The layered latex creates a mattress that is:

• pressure relieving

It doesn’t have that sinking feeling that some foam mattresses have.

2. Great for Back Support

My husband has struggled with back issues for years, and this has been his favorite mattress by far.

The firmness of the bottom layer gives support, while the softer top layer adds comfort.

3. It Has Held Up Well

We’ve been sleeping on this setup for four years now.

The toppers themselves are still in great shape.

The only thing we’re planning to upgrade soon are the covers, which are starting to show wear.

But the latex itself has held up beautifully.

We’re Doing This Setup Again

After sleeping on this setup for four years in our RV, we’re actually planning to do the exact same thing in our house.

That alone probably says everything.

The toppers themselves have held up incredibly well. They’re still supportive and comfortable after years of use. Tops are starting to show some wear, is I went ahead and purchased a cover, which was an easy fix and now they come with covers!

So instead of shopping for an expensive organic mattress, we’re simply ordering another set of these toppers for our home.
